We use the data series “Personal annual income by state'' (SAINC1) from the website of the Bureau of Economic analysis (BEA), https://apps.bea.gov/regional/docs/DataAvailability.cfm (accessed on February 26, 2021). This data source contains aggregated personal income at the state level for the years 1929—2019.
