David C. Wheelock and Paul W. Wilson, "The Evolution of Scale Economies in U.S. Banking", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 33, No. 1, 2018, pp. 16-28. The file 'ww-data.zip' contains the data used to estimate cost, revenue, and profit functions. It contains the file ww-profit.data, a flat ASCII file containing the variables used in the paper (see the paper for details on the variables). The entity id appears in the first 8 columns. The variables COST, REVENUE, Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5, W1, W2, W3, EQUITY, NPER, and TIME appear in bytes 9-27, 28-46, ..., 237-255, so that each variable is contained in 19 bytes. Thus the decompressed file contains 847,299 lines, each with 255 bytes of data plus line-feed and carriage-return characters at the end of each line for a total of 217,755,843 bytes. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". 13 April 2017 Paul W. Wilson Department of Economics Clemson University Clemson, South Carolina 29634 USA
