Data Documentation
The data folder contains all data in separate excel files (and Stata dta files). The do file “ausbildung2.do” provides the Stata code for the entire analysis of the paper. The data is at the level of vocational trades (Ausbildungsberufe) in the crafts sector, which should be aggregated to the level of crafts trades (Handwerkszweige).
The file “LangeZR-beGP_98-16.xlsx” contains the number of training contracts per trade and year. The file “LangeZR-Lbest_97-16” contains the number of finished training contracts per trade and year. The file “LangeZR-NAA_97-16” contains the training contracts per trade and year. In each of these files the following variables are also available:
(A) Gewerbegruppe New Classification Scheme for Trades; (B) Gewerbegruppe New Classification Scheme for Trades; (C) Gewerbegruppe Old Classification Scheme for Trades; (D) Gewerbegruppe Old Classification Scheme for Trades; (E) Anlage The trade belongs to group A, B1, or B2. This classifies the trade into one of three group with a different amount regulation. A – partially deregulated; B1 – deregulated in 2014; B2 – never has bee regulated; (F) id_gewerk Unique craft trade identifier, several “training trades” belong to one “craft trade”; (G) KldB2010 Classification according to a widely used German occupational classification scheme; (H) KldB1988 Classification according to a widely used German occupational classification scheme; (I) name Name of the training trade
